Locating and Ordering English and Welsh BMDs (1:01:33)

Welcome to Locating and Ordering English and Welsh BMDs. The implementation of Civil Registration on 1 July 1837 by the government recorded births, marriages, and deaths as opposed to church parish registers that recorded christenings, marriages in the Church of England, and burials. You can use Civil Registrations and parish registers in tandem from 1837 to present. You can also use Civil Registrations to trace backward until you can transition into preceding Anglican Church parish registers and other records for non-conformist congregations.

Use indexes to obtain details about BMDs and order from the General Register Office. It is easy, secure, and fast. In addition to certificate, the GRO now offers a PDF ordering option.
