Course Overview:

Welcome to our course Anglican Parish Registers in England. King Henry VIII dictated when he began the Anglican Church that records be maintained in each parish of christenings, marriages, and burials. The original registers in many cases still survive. Still, the parish was responsible for creating what is known as a Bishop’s Transcript and submitting it to the ecclesiastical bishop. Between the registers and the transcripts, it is possible to trace your Anglican ancestors in these records. In fact, you can trace ancestors in both civil registrations and civil registrations. Huge quantities of digitized parish registers are available online. This course will get you started on locating, reading, and using these important documents.
