Some of the information we use in our family history research is hearsay; it comes from family stories – or traditions – shared from one family member to another or in different family groups. This hearsay information should not be discounted; it can have a germ of proof that warrants investigation using reliable sources. Only by locating and analyzing original sources can we develop hypotheses and reasonably well-researched conclusions.
