Down Under Florida: William and Nancy Ashley


This video was produced by Megan Smolenyak Smolenyak for her company, RootsTelevision. The Genealogy Guys, George G. Morgan and Drew Smith, starred in several episodes of the Down Under series. The series records the stories of the people buried beneath the stones. This is the story of William and Nancy Ashley, a master and servant who lived together in the mid-1800s, relocating from Virginia to Tampa. It celebrates their relationship long before the Civil Rights Movement, and tells about a these people in Tampa after the Civil War. The Ashley’s are buried in Oaklawn Cemetery in downtown Tampa, Hillsborough County, Florida.
