Lesson Overview

This lesson is intended to provide an essential foundation for your family history research, both now and in the future. No matter the experience you already have, this course provides a chronological presentation of the basics to provide you that foundation. Sometimes the lightbulb comes on for even the most experienced genealogist when topics and information are presented in this manner.

This lesson discusses the most common, basic records that are used by genealogists and family history researchers to build the framework for an individual’s history. Starting with these records allows you to proceed to more detailed, complex sources of evidence and from there you can build contacts for the people in your family tree.
